Malta's BCRS scheme puts a small deposit on drinks in glass bottles and cans: water, soft drinks, beer and more.

At Bohini, we collect every bottle and can we serve. When we return them, the deposit doesn't go in our till. It goes to Anna Vella Cat Shelter, which uses BCRS vouchers to buy food for the cats.

So every drink you order with us helps a cat in need.

Who we help

Anna Vella Cat Shelter

Anna Vella is a Maltese cat rescuer from Naxxar, well known for her dedicated work supporting hundreds of abandoned and stray cats. She runs a fully self-funded cat rescue that provides essential shelter, food and veterinary care. Because she receives no official funding and pays heavy rental fees to keep these animals safe, community support is vital.

Anna started her rescue mission 14 years ago. For the first ten years, she funded their care entirely out of her own salary and savings. When her funds ran out, she began using BCRS beverage container vouchers to buy cat food. Today, the shelter relies on a dedicated network of volunteers and donors who pick up, sort, transport and gather resources from across Malta and Gozo.

€2,240.00

€35.00 every month, since 7 July 2021

Since 7 July 2021, Bohini has given €35.00 every month to Help One Child Thrive.

It’s a separate donation from the bottles for the cats, one that we make ourselves, every month.

It helps a child in Uganda with food, school and medical care.

Who we help

Help One Child Thrive

Help One Child Thrive (HOCT) was founded by Veronica Anghelescu (Romania) and Mugoya Swaliki (Uganda). From its base in Idudi, eastern Uganda, HOCT pairs vulnerable children with people all over the world who, thus, become long-distance parents. They support their child’s food, school fees and medical care, and follow their progress through letters, photos and video calls. Every contribution is documented with receipts, so they always know exactly where their help goes.
